WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Travel takes different shapes, and so does the coffee you want when you get there. Which one best matches your trips?

The Purist

One who packs beans and a grinder because the ritual is half the point. You want a non-pressurized 52mm filter basket, a naked portafilter and full control over the shot — and you accept the extra kit that comes with it.

picopresso
The Commuter

Hotel rooms, airport lounges, the office. One who wants the same cup every morning with no kettle hunt and no technique to get right. Fill it, press a button, wait three minutes. Ground coffee one day, a capsule the next.

Pixapresso
The Minimalist

One who packs light and packs fast. Drop in a capsule, add hot water, pump. No grinder, no scale, nothing extra to remember at the other end.

Minipresso NS2
The Sipper

One for whom a shot is not enough. A proper 240 ml cup in the room before the day starts, from the lightest thing that can make one.

FAQs

Questions, answered simply.

Can I take a travel coffee maker in hand luggage?

The TSA lists coffee and espresso makers as permitted in both carry-on and checked bags, and recommends the cabin for fragile electronics. Manual brewers — Picopresso, Minipresso NS2, Prestina — are purely mechanical, so there is nothing to declare. Pixapresso contains a built-in lithium battery, so it should travel in the cabin, powered off, with the water tank empty. Rules vary outside the US, so check your airline before you fly.

Do I need to boil water first?

For Picopresso, Minipresso NS2, and Prestina, yes — you supply the hot water, from a hotel kettle, a room tap at the right temperature, or anything else to hand. Pixapresso is the exception: it heats its own water from cold.

Do I need to bring a grinder?

For Picopresso, plan on it. It uses a non-pressurized 52 mm basket, which is what makes the shot good, and that means grind size does the work. Most supermarket pre-ground is too coarse, and a blade grinder will not give a consistent result. A hand burr grinder such as the Exagrind Pro-E is the usual travel answer. Minipresso NS2 needs no grinder at all, and Prestina works well with ordinary medium-ground coffee.

How many coffees can Pixapresso make on a single charge?

About five espressos from cold water. If you start with pre-heated water from a kettle, the battery goes much further, because almost all the power goes into heating rather than pumping. A full recharge over USB-C takes about 2.5 hours. If you have a kettle, use it — you will rarely see the battery run down.

Will it charge on my travel adapter?

Pixapresso charges over USB-C from any adapter rated above 10 W, so your phone charger plus a plug adapter will do. There is no voltage or transformer issue to think about. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours. The other three need no electrical power.

How long does a cup take?

Pixapresso takes about 180 seconds from cold water. The manual brewers, once hot water is ready, the Picopresso and Minipresso NS2 pull a shot in under a minute, and the Prestina takes a few minutes to press.

Which one needs the least effort?

Minipresso NS2. Drop in a compatible capsule, add hot water, pump. No grinder, no scale, no dose to measure. Pixapresso is the lowest-effort electric option — fill it and press a button.

Picopresso or Pixapresso — which should I get?

Picopresso, if you want control and already own, or will buy, a burr grinder. Pixapresso if you want consistency with no extra kit: it heats its own water, holds three temperature settings, takes capsules as well as ground coffee, and does not require brewing technique.

Can I use my usual capsules while traveling?

Minipresso NS2 and Pixapresso both take Nespresso® Original capsules and compatibles.

How do I clean it in a hotel room?

A rinse under the tap is enough for all four. None need a dishwasher, and Wacaco advises hand washing. Pack the brush that comes in the box and you can keep it clean anywhere.

Espresso or a full cup — which is better for travel?

It depends on what you drink at home. If you take a long black or a mug of filter, Prestina gives you 240 ml and is the lightest option at 254 g. If you drink espresso, flat whites or lattes, Picopresso and Pixapresso are built for that and pair with milk you pick up locally.

What is the lightest Wacaco for travel?

Prestina at 254 g. Minipresso NS2 is next at 290 g, then Picopresso at 350 g. Pixapresso is the heaviest at 755 g — the benefit for not needing a kettle.
